The Service Shop
Back in 1977 when I first started turning wrenches in a bike store, there was a big poster mounted at the entrance to the service shop that that listed about fifty different service options. This was before there were mountain bikes, or suspension and disc brakes, and the only type of bike available had skinny tires and drop handlebars. Still, the service menu filled up a huge 3’x4’ poster, and for the average customer the plethora of choices was dizzying. Except for “tune-up” and “overhaul”, most of the services, such as dropout alignment, meant nothing. More important is that the concept of an itemized list of dozens of service options makes little sense, because most adjustments on a bicycle rely upon many other adjustments to work properly. With this in mind, Plum Grove Cyclery streamlines the choices to simplify the process for the customer.
